How to Measure a Quadrant Shower Enclosure?

When it comes to installing a new shower enclosure, taking proper measurements of the selected area is often the first step. It is important to get it right because otherwise, you may end up spending too much time and money on returning and replacing it. 

To ensure a seamless shower enclosure installation, consider important dimensions such as height, width, and depth. The process of taking correct measurements may vary slightly depending on the shape of the enclosure. 

While measuring for a square or rectangular enclosure may seem straightforward, it is tricky to do it for a quadrant shower enclosure.

In this blog, we are going to explain the step-by-step process to measure a quadrant shower enclosure.

Before you start taking the measurements for a quadrant shower enclosure you should consider the following:

• Shower Tray: It is the base of your shower enclosure. Your shower cubicle stands around it. However, you have an option not to install it. Therefore, decide if the installation will include a shower tray before taking measurements. You will need to measure it from where the curved edge finishes for the quadrant tray. It will result in the most accurate measurement for both length and width.
• Measure The Wall: To understand how much bigger the enclosure you want is, it is important that you take measurements on the wall from multiple points to be accurate. If you want to fit a quadrant enclosure into the corner, then you need to get it from one side, mid-point, and other corner.
• Measure Existing Shower Enclosure: For the most accurate enclosure measurement, measure your existing shower cubicle. If you are planning to install the same shape, then you can simply measure its width, length, and height to order the new one. However, you may have to make some changes in measurements according to the change in shape. For this purpose, you should simply get the measurement of the enclosure area first and follow our instructions in the later part of the blog.

Here is our step-by-step process to take quadrant shower cubicle measurements. It is important that you repeat each measurement three times to ensure its accurate:

• Width
• Height
• Length

The first step will be to decide whether you need a shower tray or not. If you have a plan to install it, then it is important to take a measurement accordingly. In case it is a new installation from scratch, then you will need to measure the ground area that is supposed to be for the enclosure. Simply place a cardboard on the ground and draw a quadrant shape as per your size requirements. After that, cut it into shapes and measure the tray first. If you want to measure it without a tray, then you will need to take into account the external dimensions of the cubicle, from on edge, middle, and other edges. A quadrant shower tray is what you need and take its measurement from the edge of the tile. You can also measure from the glass line from edge to edge on the tile.

After deciding on the shower tray measurements, the next step is to specify the front and side parts of the quadrant shower enclosure. To do so you will need to think about where the front and sides will be projected on the ground. You can simply make a rough sketch in your mind and specify the point with a marker on the ground.

Once you have specified the front and side parts, you can first sketch on the paper to make a good idea about it. It should be in a quadrant shape. To get the front part width, you will need to measure with measuring tape from the point where the curved edges bend. That means the middle circular area will not be included. In addition to that, to get the total depth from the wall to the front part, point out the midpoint on the wall and then measure that from there to the front.

To determine the width of the side parts, use a measuring tape. You can decide a one side point on the wall and then from that point measure it on the side. Ensure that the width corresponds to the available area you wish to enclose.

How are Corner Shower Enclosures Measured?

To measure the corner shower enclosure, you will first need to measure the depth. Simply take a measuring tape and measure the distance between the front to back walls in the middle point. Similarly, take distance from each wall on both sides to the front.

What Size Do Shower Trays Come in?

To cater to the need for different shapes and sizes of shower enclosures, shower trays are available in various sizes. Generally, shower trays are available in 800mm to 1600mm sizes. You may find a quadrant shower tray, rectangular shower tray, and square shower tray in these sizes.

There are various ways to know the size of shower base you need. The first is the easiest way you can measure your existing shower tray from all of its sides, including depth. If it is the first installation, then simply sketch the design you want on cardboard by placing it on the floor and measuring both sides by getting the distance from the wall to one edge. Repeat the same from the other side. In addition, you should also measure the distance from the midpoint on the wall to the desired front side.

When setting up a shower enclosure, essential shower accessories include a suitable shower head (sliding shower rail kit or fixed), a shower with jets or a shower head for a bath if you are fitting the bathtub into the enclosure too. You may also consider adding a shower caddy or wall-mounted shelves for organized storage of toiletries. All quadrant shower trays will appear the same but may be different in terms of size and material. That means it will have a curved front with a square backside. You will first need to decide on the size of the tray based on your shower area measurements.
