Large baths
What counts as a large bath?
A large bath is generally considered to be anything 1700mm or over in length, though 1600mm baths are also far more spacious than the standard 1500mm design. At Royal Bathrooms, the large baths range covers sizes from 1600mm x 700mm up to 1800mm x 800mm, giving you plenty of choice, depending on how much space you're working with and how generous you want the internal dimensions to be.
Are large baths worth it?
For most people, yes. The difference between a standard 1500mm bath and a large bath at 1700mm or 1800mm is more noticeable than you might think. You get more room to stretch out, a more comfortable bathing experience for taller people or anyone who wants to share, and a sense of space that a standard bath simply doesn't deliver. If your bathroom can accommodate the extra length, a big bath is one of the most worthwhile upgrades you can make.
What size bathroom do I need for a large bath?
As a general guide, your bathroom should be at least 5m² to comfortably fit a large bath alongside other fixtures. A 1700mm x 700mm bath is the most popular choice for a standard family bathroom with enough space, while the 1800mm x 800mm designs suit larger rooms where you want to make more of the space. It's always worth measuring your bathroom carefully before ordering, accounting for the door swing, radiator positions, and any other fixtures that might affect where the bath can sit.
What is the difference between a single ended and double ended large bath?
A single ended bath positions the taps at one end with a sloped back at the other, which is the most familiar layout and suits most standard bathrooms. A double ended bath has a central waste and a symmetrical shape, so there's no designated head or foot end, making it a natural choice for couples or anyone who wants a more spa-like bathing experience. The double ended designs in this range also have a cleaner, more sculptural quality that works particularly well in larger or more open bathroom spaces.
What materials are the large baths made from?
Every large bath in this range is made from high-grade acrylic, which is the most popular material for modern baths, and for good reason. Acrylic is lightweight, warm to the touch, easy to clean, and resistant to staining and fading over time. On top, the baths in this range are available with optional acrylic or moisture-resistant MDF panels, giving you a choice of how the finished installation looks from the outside.
Can I use a large bath with a shower?
Yes, and many of the baths in this range are designed with exactly that in mind. The L-shaped shower bath designs in the Qubix range combine a generous bathing area with a wider showering end, making them ideal for anyone who wants the space of a big bath, without giving up a shower. A bath screen is also available across the range for anyone who wants to add a shower over a standard large bath.

What panels are available for large baths?
Bath panels are available in two materials across this range. Acrylic panels come in white and grey, with a high-gloss finish that's easy to keep clean and requires no further treatment. MDF panels are moisture-resistant and offer a smoother, more paintable surface for anyone who wants to match the panel to their wall colour or tile scheme. A front panel covers the long exposed side of the bath facing into the room, while an end panel covers the shorter side at the tap or foot end and is only needed when that side isn't against a wall. Both panel types are available in either configuration.
